C6 Z06 shifter issues - Help

C6 Z06 shifter issues - Help
Just installed it and it shifts fine except for 1st and 2nd. For some reason it will not go into 1st at all - sometimes if I downshift from 3rd it will go into second. Is there a trick on the install to aligning it? Is it possible I did not have it exactly in neutral on the install?

Did you use the neutral alignment pin to install the new shifter?
Did you install just the shifter or the entire assembly (with box) as available from GMPARTSHOUSE?
The pin should have maintained neutral for the R&R for either...

Yes, I got it from Gene and it was the entire unit... I think I must have pulled the neutral pin before it was installed. Could that be the problem? Also, how do I know where it's supposed to be positioned on the shaft? Is there a specific spot on the shaft?

I installed only the shifter itself (B&M Sport) on my car and never had to deal with removing the complete assembly. I still used the alignment pin to do the installation and had no problems.
There's been enough members who've installed the complete assembly from Gene that someone should be able to offer you more instruction.
Be patient...
In the mean time, read through this thread and any links contained within. Pay attention to the posts by member patches.

I found it among hundreds of others using search and keywords "c6 z06 shifter install" in C5 Tech.
There's been enough members who've installed the complete assembly from Gene that someone should be able to offer you more instruction.
