Default Resolving Seat Foam Compression

The driver seat on my Corvette should get new seat base foam when I install new leather skins. I was wondering if anyone had success in bringing the old foam back to it's original fluff, or has added something like foam carpet padding to fill in the extra space.

Other than buying from GM, is there a source for new foam? What can I expect to pay for a new seat base foam from GM or other source?

I did a cheap fix and it continues to hold up well.

Just had a local upholstry shop renew the side bolsters and the seat foam on the base. They found that the springs had spread and allowed the foam to compress into the open spaces. Their fix was to realign the springs and wrap with protective spring fabric to eliminate future problems. To my knowledge, they used automobile seat foam to rebuild the base and bolsters. Seems likely you could purchase some of this foam from any local auto upholstry shop. Total job cost $100 so the foam should be very modest in cost. Good luck...

I put in a new seat bottom foam from Gene ~$65 He always lists the seat foam in his monthly specials.

I also followed the forum advice and added a 1" flat sheet of foam between the new seat foam and the springs. About 2 hours of work.

Very happy with the end result

One person used burlap between foam and spring wires to keep wires from cutting foam.

I used a steamer and ran it all over the foam it softened and swelled substantially, the color even got lighter. To me it appeared that it returned to original shape as my new seat skins fit very tight.

I lined the seat bottom wires with a hunk of carpet and lined all exposed frame edges on the bottom and back with Vinyl tubing. I used spray adhesive to glue together all the rips and cuts from the wires and frame...
