Wanted to drive my 2000 Corvette this morning. The car had not been started in four weeks. When I started it I received two warnings in the DIC. One was service ABS the other was service traction control. I shut down the car and ran the diagnostic program on the DIC. Only code was in the 28TCS area. The code was number #1226 and showed as a history code. Has anyone else had this problem and what could it mean? Is the car safe to operate in this condition? Any help would be appreciated.
I have the same thing with my 2000. The car is safe to drive with the Traction Control warning but just know that the system is deactivated so you would have no traction control help if your tires lose traction. The ABS could be ok but I would not risk it activating while you were driving. Check for lose ABS sensor connections at each wheel to check if any connections are loose. Also check your battery, I have been told that these errors can show up if your battery is weak.
Personally, the errors appear for me a few minutes after I start the vehicle or I hit a bump (and even this is occasional). I put the car in neutral(manual) shut off the engine and restart it. The errors go away and the car will have ABS and Traction control working correctly. If this works for you as well, its most likely a loose connection. Good Luck.
As a general rule of thumb, when you get the ABS and trac lights on at the same time you should consider the front hubs as a possibility. This is after ruling out a weak battery or other electrical issues.
