It's been 2.5 years since I changed my oil and I always get 10w-30. I switched to the heaver weight oil hoping to reduce the oil burning of about 1 qt every 1k miles. I have put 3k miles on the car over the past 2.5 years. I was thinking of switching to Mobile 1 15w-50 oil.

Two and a half years since your last oil change-------surely you jest. Or do you mean since you changed brands of oil???
A 10w-30 oil is not heavier at operating temp than a 5w-30 oil!!!! They're both 30 weight oils when they're hot.
My 2000 uses oil, as do a lot of other Vettes. Between 0.5 and 1 quart every 3000 miles. Doesn't bother me one bit.
If this baby starts using oil it won't last in my barn. I'm just theorizing with the questions, because I don't know anything.
Thanks again to everyone.

all post's offer sound advice ,can't add anything to it but a unexpected thing happened when I tried (mobil 1) 15-50 weight, the car used a quart of oil between changes and I change when DIC reads 35% remain went back 5-30 no prob.Maybe they have low tension rings, don't know 4sure. but watch oil level if using non recommeded weight. just my $.02
