Default Instrument cluster swap

How much work to swap a instrument cluster in my 2002 C5? Any special tools needed? Thanks for any help. David

Not too difficult of a job, looks way more intimidating than it really is.

These are probably the best published/pictured instructions you'll find.

(The instructions are for installing gauge bezel rings, but since that requires cluster removal and disassembly, it will definitely help you).

You will have an issue with the odometer though. The mileage is stored inside the IP Cluster...you'll need to update the new cluster with the old one's mileage to stay legal.

I recently swapped my instrument cluster while I was adding HUD to my '99. The odometer in the "new" Z06 cluster had only 6,683 miles showing, and mine has 164,000 miles so I ended up swapping the odometer circuit boards between the two clusters. It's actually a pretty easy process that only requires a torx bit driver and a small screw driver.
Like Y2K mentioned, the cluster removal looks intimidating from pictures, but it actually only takes a few minutes to remove the center console, steering column surround, and instrument cluster. Just take enough time to find all the fasteners and try not to break the somewhat brittle plastic tabs and clips.

Thank you again for information. One last question. The dash I am buying does not have the bezel holding the function switches or heads up display switches. Should I expect any problems with the change over or are there any specific questions I should ask before I purchase the cluster? I am buying a 2001 Z06 cluster. My 2002 C05 automatic trans has a heads up display Thanks again. David

I'd be sure the new one is HUD capable. Should be and you just change in your switch plate but it may not be. It should have the place to plug in the HUD harness at the top in back.

Anyone know if by 2001 they all were made as HUD capable and had the buttons if it did have HUD?

Hello again, I could use some info. Did the 2001 Z06 come stock with HUD and does it matter if my car is a Automatic with the dash. Any assistance would be appreciated. David

I bought a used non hud cluster out of an 01 Z, I have an 02 Coupe with hud. Since all I wanted was the Z06 speedo and tach that’s all I used out of the Z cluster. Just swapped the gages and put my original cluster back in. Everything works fine and no hassle with the odo or hud. Not sure why you’re changing the cluster but if it’s just for the tach and speedo……

I just bought a Canadian built 2001 Z06 and the MPH gauge goes all the way to 300 because you can either switch it from MPH or KPH, I only want the MPH gauge that is standard in the US built Z06, has anyone ever done the instrument cluster swap or have any suggestions? Thanks.
