Hi all... New member here. I have this horrible problem of going thru a set of rear tires every summer... my wife is about to divorce me because of it. (price of goodyear runflats what they are) Any ideas where i can find a cheaper deal for them?... I'd even consider buying used ones. Not too many vettes up here in maine so craigslist is a no go...
Also, the factory set of runflats are a must im assuming???...not having a spare tire....????
thanks for all your help...i feel pretty alone owning this car up here in the cold. not even the dealers know much about my car...and at $100 an hour?...I'd rather they know what they are doing
Run flats are not a must, C5 Z06s came from the factory with non-runflat tires. Visit Tire-rack's web site, many choices available.
If you are running through a set of rear tires every summer, it's only a matter of time before you damage something in the driveline.
well...i have driven the car 40,000 miles is 3 summers....not only am i stupid, but i drive it everywhere...Ive had the car checked out before every season and had no problems in the driveline what so ever...
Have you considered NON run flats. They are cheaper, lighter and quieter. You can carry a tire plug kit and a small (cheap) compressor in your trunk (thats what I do). I don't recommended the fix a flat sealers since they are know to ruin the tire sensors.
I currently have the Nitto INVO tires and love them.
I run the kumho escta asx front and rear. They are an all season tire that grips wet or dry, great treadwear number, and the cost is great. It is not a run-flat. I figure I pay for roadside in my insurance, why do i care if it goes on a flatbed. Its been on one before.
If you get in a wreck because of a tire issue, is your insurance company going to check to see if OEM run flat tires were on the car at the time? That is my biggest concern.

Check tirerack.com. They have Sumitomos and Kumho Ecstas for less than half the price of factory runflats.
Firestone Wide Ovals are the highest rated tire in their class and relatively inexpensive. They have a 320 wear rating and very high marks on the customer survey available at WWW.thetirerack.com I have them on my 98 and plan to buy them again. Great value for the money on a good all around tire.

are the wide ovals as wide as the stock run flats ?

There is no insurance requirement that I know of regarding RF tires. The RF is just a convenience because the C5 doesn't have a spare - it has nothing to due with safety or performance. In fact, a non-runflat tire is probably a safer tire because there is less or no bump steer and better traction characteristics and handling depending on the selected tire. As long as the replacement tire has the proper speed rating and size for the application there should be no problem. There are millions of cars on the road with mounted tires other than those that came stock on the vehicle. What about cars that get in wrecks during the winter and don't have snow tires?
Don, i had kuhmo on my c4 and they were outstanding. I have heard that their runflats are great tires at a fraction of the cost of the goodyears. You might look at tire rack to see their cost to compare to the goodyears. You might try a search in the general info forum for kuhmo. You are sure to see some comments about their runflats.
Spend a few bucks on AAA for towing and get the BF Goodrich - g-Force T/A KDW
They have an awesome tread pattern and are great tires! Had them on my Z28... And are currently on my C5. Check out http://www.tirerack.com/
let me know what size and type of tire you want, and i will get you a price sat morning. If you have questions about size or kind of tire to use pm and i will do my best to help you.
Go easy on that GO PEDAL my friend.
A lighter right foot will save you gas, and tires.I've done alot of searches on this too. Firestones, and Kuhmo runflats seem to be a good choice for a less expensive alternative to the GY runflats. They are ALOT cheaper.Michelins are great, but the way you go through tires, they're too expensive.
If you go to non runflats, they will be even cheaper. Remember, ZO6's do not come with runflats. They have regular tires and they give you a small compressor, tire plugs ,and a can of Slime tire fix. That, and a AAA card with a cell phone will work.
Personally, I'm probably going to go with Michelin Runflats when it's time for a change. I'll have my fun trashing the GY's on the car now, and then try to behave myself.
