Default Passenger door hinge help!!

I noticed my pass side rocker is getting really chipped at the front edge and realized it is because the door sits in at the bottom maybe just a bit more than 1/8 of an inch. So I just need to move the door outward at the bottom hinge only. How do I do this. I found a thread with directions that pretty much said to loosen the hinge to door bolts, make adjustment, and re-tighten to 22 lb ft. What is the adjustment? Add washers or shims between the door and hinge?

Thanks,

Jeremy

Did you have some bodywork done recently?

You can't adjust the hinges independently. They both have to be loosened otherwise you'll create a bind. You shouldn't have to shim anything for the adjustment you're talking about. I haven't tried to adjust a C5s doors, but typically what we'd do in the bodyshop I used to work in was...

1. Pull off any interior trim necessary to get to the hinges.
2. Close the door
3. Loosely (slightly) all hinge bolts
4. Push, pull, and shim the door until it looks right both inside and out.
5. Tighten the hinge bolts carefully ensuring that you aren't moving the door while you torque them down.

Depending on the car, you may or not be able to get to the bolts with the door closed. In that case, we'd open the door, support it, loosen the hinge bolts, close the door, line it up, then mark the position of the hinges, open it up and tighten.
