I read ( somewhere) that the installation of one of these would NOT void the warranty.......TRUE or FALSE.
Also, the 10.5 Comp ratio, is a tad high( needs to be around 9:1, for best results so I hear).........
Is this a feasible mod, considering it would have to be run around 6PSI boost??????.
Would it be worth the $7k tag????
And what HP would be available afterwards?........conjecture I know.......but, I haven't a clue..............
Warranty: Well, now that depends. When I supercharged my 86 Trans Am in 86, a few months later my mass air sensor started causeing codes. Took it to my dealer, as at that time mass air units were like $400. The service writer called some techs over to admire the cool looking unit, then said well, the SC has nothing to do with the mass air problem so they replaced it under warranty. Now if I twisted an axle, or cooked a piston, I could not expect them to warranty it due to the SC and its extra power, but the rest of the car cannot be rejected due to the SC.
PS: Lots of guys have had trouble with running that high of compression with a SC, of course I was before intercoolers were available for SC's, but I burned pistons with 9.4 comp, and was trouble free after lowering to 8.8 comp
6-7psi of boost on a stock motor ... I will guess and say 70-80rwhp maximum. This is if the timing does not have to be retarded significantly under boost to keep detonation at bay. There's a good chance it might only be 50-60rwhp.
You know my thoughts on this. I've been working with centrifugal blowers for a decade now. There is NO WAY I would put one of these on a 10.5:1 CR motor if its a street car...needing to run pump gas, and seeing lots of variations in engine temp/air temp conditions.
Now, go in and put some low CR pistons in it, run 11-14psi and you'll see significant gains (in some cases over 200rwhp), especially if you complement the package by improving the exhaust. You also will be able to get away with running pump gas. It's all about volume of air in/out, moreso than boost.
Intercooling is great, so long as the packaging of the kit it good, and it doesn't make it an absolute nightmare to work under the hood of the car.
Trust me...I'm a big fan of centrifugal blowers...just not on this car without some other modifications to make it safe, reliable AND fast. :)
