We did not get off track. Some people did not read the question. He asked two identical cars. So put a 3.15 geared stick vs a 3.15 auto. Or if you can get a 2.73 stick. Or as some of us said and have done put a 3.42 in the auto. I can not say what a 2.73 stick will do. Or what a 3.15 stick will do. But I can tell you that my stock except for 3.42 gears auto has run quicker than many stock with 3.42 sticks. I have yet to be beat by a stock standard Corvette c5 and before and I have not run a zo6. So I say stock for stock because we are equal now the auto will win. As far as launcing easier my auto will roast street tires all day if I dont launch correctly. Its not my launch most of the time its them taking time shifting. Shifting takes time, push in clutch, pull lever. We usually both spin some. The auto just shifts as soon as I move the lever. Bam its in the gear.
The KEY word is STOCK!! No autos have 3.42s,,that is a major mod,,so the best for bone stock would be the 3.15s. A perfect run(the key phrase) it would STILL be the M6,,it has the edge in power,,drive train loss and weight.
in that specific... the 6 speed manual would win every time.
But it's a moot point; because the vast majority of manual shift car owners aren't born with the natural dexterity to extract the benefit of the manual tranny. And of those that are; the vast majority don't practice launches and WOT shifts enough to retain a the skill level required.
In the real world drag race... there's no "do-overs" because of a muffed launch or missed shift. A4's are no-brainers to drive. Manual shift cars require a skilled driver that practices regularily.
