The connector has to be assembled by pushing the wire through the back of the plastic cover, crimping the terminal on the wire and then sliding it back into the cover until the terminal locks in place.
If you can't buy the jumper wire through GM or your local dealer then I would recommend an automotive electrical shop, otherwise you can purchase the connector terminal parts from Waytek along with the correct crimper. A little warning though, Waytek usually has a minimum purchase so you'll probably have enough connectors to do 50 jumper wires. http://order.waytekwire.com/cgi-bin/...EBID(S0020):01
If it's one of Delphi's connectors they may have it and they DON'T have minimums on in-stock items.
Just checked. Rockauto.com has a couple one-wire rear window defroster connector pigtails available from AC Delco. Check them out. BTW, if your connector bodies are getting hot enough to dry out or cause the plastic to become brittle, something is not right. Make sure the metal part of that connector has a good tight grip on the male lug. If it's the least bit too loose, there will be a high resistance situation there and heat will buildup rapidly. The heater grid draws a fair amount of current, so check it out.

Reason: Additional info
You don't need to change the wire. The female spade terminal slips out of the plastic quick connect housing once you release the spade terminal with a small flat blade screwdriver.
Your housing is already broken...so look at the side of the spade terminal and you'll see the prong that secures the terminal within the housing. Just replace the housing.
You were provided one source above. Another source is DELCITY... http://www.delcity.net/
Or you can find the single electrical components at some well stocked auto parts sources like NAPA. You might need to slightly modify the housing to work in this application.
The other option is simply to cover the spade terminal with heat shrink tubing. No one will notice it but you.
