my 98 vette has ben sittin up 4 2yrs jus replaced da fuel pump it went bad sittin changed da steering colum lock simulator now i think the V.A.T.S.S wont let it stay runnin itll start & 3sec later da car kills again an da security lite pops up how do i by-pass the v.a.t.s.s.
First off, you cannot bypass the VATS nor was it intended to ever be bypassed. Let me start by asking where are you located? When you go to start the car, is the security light on constant or flashing? What does the security light do once it starts? Normally the VATS will not allow it to start or even turn over if it sees a problem. If you just changed the fuel pump, more likely you have air in the fuel line system therefore until that air is purged through, its not going to run continuously till it pressurizes with fuel.
Have you pulled the codes yet? Guessing you've got a bad ignition switch. They can be repaired if the contacts aren't too messed up otherwise you'll need to get a new one. As stated, the VATS won't allow the car to even crank over and since it is, there is a different issue. Make sure you have fuel at the fuel rails. There is a small valve at the end of it that for the life of me, I can't remember how to spell it this second, but see if you have fuel there. It may still be that you don't have fuel to the rails, pressurized, to keep it running. May I assume that since the replacement of the fuel pump, it has not started and it was running before that time? Have you checked all of the fuses both in the engine compartment and the passenger footwell? The column lock simulator you installed, are you sure its good?
