When I get over 100mph the rear end feels washey and loose. I have a 2000 Vet., Targa Top. (It didn't take me long to become a member of the FRC club) Just replaced the GY runflats with Sumotomo III. Eliminated most of the road noise. I didn't try going very fast with the GY tires but I feel the Sumo's should have a solid road feel. My son said his patrol car had a more solid feel at 130 than my vet. Anyone have a suggestion as to what could cause the car to feel loose in the rear at high speeds. A newly acquainted friend has had his up to 160 and said it still felt solid but had no suggestions for me. Any advice is appreciated. I just want to smoke my sons patrol car once. Thanks in advance for your help.

When I went to non-runflats I had the same issue. The rear end felt "squishy". This is due to actual sidewall flex. The runflats do not have this issue because they have a much thicker sidewall to accomplish their "runflat" ability. You will notice less lag time between the turn of the steering wheel, and the response of the vehicle with runflats. Conversely- they ride like crap. The same thick sidewall that gives them their responsiveness makes them terribly unforgiving. They are noisier, and transmit much more road vibration into the passanger cabin.
IMHO GDY runflats are overpriced and overrated. (14 years mgr of major tire chain) I advise my customers to seek other options because I have had too many GDY's come back as complaints or concerns. (although my profit margin on them is amazing) There are other options available which are much better if you choose to stay runflat. But in the end, you have to decide which evil you are willing to deal with. A little steering lag and rear end squish with comfort, or ratteling your teeth out and responsive and solid.
