fuel pressure relief

I have to change my leaking fuel filter. How do I go about relieving the fuel pressure before I remove the old one ?

I cant believe Chevy mounted the filter over the exhaust pipe. I may have been about 7 minutes away from a MAJOR disaster !!!!

Gas cap and shrader valve? thats what i would guess. I have to change mine this spring as well.

Pull the fuse for the fuel pump, then hit the starter for a few seconds.

Thanks, will this confuse the computer at all?

If I just remove the old filter will alot of fuel dump out?

The car is a 1998

The filter swap went fast. I just released the gas cap and about 1/4 cup drianed out when I removed the old filter.

Just an FYI. The chevy parts guy told me that if you need the inlet tube(from the tank to the filter) there are only about 20 left in the country. Chevy has stopped making them.
