2001 Z06 thermostat

2001 Z06 thermostat
My car got a new aluminum radiator a couple of weeks ago and the thermostat seems to have gone on the blink shortly afterwards. The water temp now doesn't heat up to 180deg and cools down to 145deg in highway driving (when it's below freezing, which is all that we've had recently).
The dealer wanted a casting number from the water pump. If it had been replaced, then the thermostat and housing are different from the original. They also want app $60 for the parts, either way.
The local parts store also has it in stock, no questions about the casting number, and the thermostat/housing is $28.
It also looks like the thermostat is off the lower radiator hose on the water pump. Am I going to have a problem with the non-dealership thermostat/housing?

You have a '01 Z06, the thermostat and housing are one piece.
If your water pump is original, you need the thermostat w/housing.
If your water pump has been replaced with the new design, ('04 and newer)
you will need just the thermostat. (without the housing)
