I have gotten a check engine light a couple of times in the last ten days. I come up with a PCM code P1416 which calls out the Bank 2 AIR check valve. I have reset the code and driven it with no problems. After maybe ten start cycles, the check engine light comes back on and the code reappears. Of course this is the check valve behind the engine and the intake manifold has to come off to change it. Has anyone had experience with this problem and is there anything special I should know before pulling the manifold. I have the FSM. It is an 01 A4 LS1.
Not sure what they cover in the tune up section but if you do a search on the Tech Forum (if search will work for you) you will find where people have solved this problem. I believe Bill Curlee used some spray can fluid (could be WD-40) to free the valve and get it operating again. If he doesn't read this thread you might get his attention by starting a thread calling for his help.

I hate that damn valve, it is buried behind the intake manifold. I've already replaced mine 2 or 3x and yes you gotta move the intake manifold to get to it. I've replaced the drivers side (the P1415) valve only once and that one is literally a 2 minute job. Some claim they can pull it out without touching the intake manifold but I don't see how that's possible.
You can- try to force some penetrating oil up the AIR tube with compressed air, by in my experience the fix is short lived.
Had that problem on my 01, I used Bill Curlee's thread but used carburetor cleaner instead of WD-40. Once you fill the hose leading to the RS valve, let it sit for half an hour or so, then put the air hose to it.
I did this a couple of years ago, haven't had the problem since.
I just read all the threads on this problem and will give the cleaning a try this weekend. I am continuously amazed at the depth of knowledge and the willingness of the members to help us newbies. Thank you Bill Curlee for a very detailed thread.
