Default Which torque converter setup do I need for sure?

My sig says I want a 3000 but is that really what I want? IF I can't save enough for the procharger, I am thinking of doing headers, 3.42's, and a torque converter in addition to the parts I already have. The car is mostly for fun, not driven daily. Gets to the track a couple of times a year at the most. So really a weekend driver for me and the wife with some longer trips in the mix.

Sooo, what do I want? My goal is to knock at least 3/10's off my 1/4 times but still make the car fun to drive without being scary. My wife also drives it quite a bit so don't want something that will scare the sh@& out of her.

Very open to suggestions from all who have been down this path.

Thanks in advance.

I first went with the 2400 Pro Torque and the 3:42 gear. Droped 3 tenths. The converter is very good for the average driver. Changed to 3200 vigilanty for a better 60' time. It still runs fine on the street, but if I wasn't going to the track as much I think the 2400 would be better. Installed FLP headers and go another 3 tenths.

Good Luck:

I totally agree, if you are just going to the track only a few times go with the PT-2400 its great.. I got caught up with needing power and the desire to hit the track on a frequent basics because of this forum. :( Now I want to change to a higher stall converter with no dead pedal. My torque should be at least 8-10 lbs more across the band. The PT-2400 will give you a better launch than the SY-3500 with the STR of 1.65. Thats why I am considering a SY-3500 with the STR of at 2.1, if it does not have any dead pedal. We will see!

If you want to save some money and have an absolute kick **** car consider the Yank 3000 with your 3.15's. It is a great TC for your needs. This TC is great in performance, will throw you into the back of the seat, yet very very very driveable for anyone. And if you want to drive around town normal (wife) without the kick **** power, the you can and not even know you have a TC installed. I have this set-up now and it is great. If you have any doubts I recommend you start a thread asking for Yank 3000 owners to "check in" with their experiences to help you decide. If you have any other questions, e-mail me or ask here in this thread. The STR (Stall Torque Ratio) can be adjusted a bit on this TC too to even make it a bit more user friendly :D
I have the same setup & think it provides a great combo of power & driveability. Prior to the Yank 3000, the car wouldn't even chirp off the line; after the install, TC kicks in off the line & again on the shift to 2nd.

I would say SY 3500 would be the perfect street converter for you!

I have and would go with the SY3500.One of the best improvements I've made so far.I hope I'm as happy with my new convertor that's going in soon.

:seeya The PT 2400 converter and the 3.42' were a great STOP addition.
But don't forget the Transgo shift kit if you REALLY want results!!

Same set up as buckmaster, and 3/10 are pretty normal. I run almost everytime around 12.9-13.15, and before the TC, around 13.4-13.5

I have the Precision Industries Vigilante, 2400-2600 stall. When I had 3:15 gear It took off almost 1/2 a sec. in my 1/4 mile, just like the ad said. And if your not satisfied with the stall, they will change it one time for free and has a great warranty. I paid about $650.

I would also like to add, don't drop you rearend and trans for the swap and just replace your 3:15 with a 3:42, you'll just wish you had the 3:73 later. Do it right the first time, never any regrets!!! :seeya

Ditto ecvette.....the 2400 works for me, I have not thought about changing it, although I am after your fast E/T ...yes, I want those 10's!
When I hit the 1/4 mile drags next time, my E/T should be faster... I have a drag set-up ( skinnies up front & M/T's in back) with RK Sport headers added....,
:) 3.73's next......????????????? :D
