Default Battery

OK, so I had my Vette on a trickle charger for the past 4 months and I decided that it was time to bring it out of hibernation. I tried to start it up and it wouldn't crank, so hook my jumper pack up and she came to life. I disconnected the jumper pack and let it idle for about 5 minutes while I dusted it off and checked the tire pressures.

I was noticing that the daytime running lights would flash on and off about every 5 seconds, so I shut it down and tried to restart it, but it wouldn't crank, so I jumped it again and it came to life once more. I disconnected the jumper pack and it idled for about 1 minute then it died completely and wouldn't crank.

My thought is that my battery is shot, but I thought that it was kinda weird that the engine would just die. The volt gage showed over 13 volts while it was running.

Was it a trickle charger or a battery maintainer? A trickle charger can kill a battery, a maintainer "shuts off" when not needed.

While running, your voltage was from your alternator.

Sounds like a bad battery. What is your voltage reading with engine off?

It was a maintainer. It would shut off when the battery was charged. Or so I thought. Last year it just went dead and I jumped it and it was fine.

You need a fully charged battery to run a C-5. As mentioned, either buy a new battery or get yours up to full power before trying run it.
