Last week I purchased a MT ET Street wheel setup from Breathless. Ernie said they would require a small amount of grinding of the top knuckle. I ground off enough for less than 1/8" clearence. Tonight wife says sounds like passenger side wheel is falling off. I pulled the wheel and found the the upper ball was now exposed and able to move upward and out of socket. Driver side has not popped out but appears that it could and eventually will. Can anyone tell me what I have to replace? How big of a job? Can it be driven (to the dealer)?
I would have it flat bedded. The car is not safe to drive that way. You probably have to replace both upper control arms and ditch the wheels. While you are replacing them you might want to look at the cost of buying the complete set of T1 control arms from the Performance Parts Catalog. You are in for at least half their cost anyway.

Is there any way you could post a picture of this? I would love to see what it looks like.

Re: HELP Wheel falling apart!!!! (redbob)
OOOps! Sucks to be you.
Really - Don't drive it. It could lock up a wheel and then the control arm/Knuckle will be the least of your worries. :( I lost a spectacular all steel 1934 ford (with chevy drive train, of course) to a rear wheel coming off at freway speed. The locker caused the lug studs to fatigue and they sheared off while I was flying down the freeway. The good news is that my C5 is the '34s replacement.
