Hi..I'm a new member with a 2001 C5 Can any one give us some advice
on the best fitting Bra.
The one we had on our 1985 was purchased from mid America and had a lot of flap that scuffed the paint..
Thanks in advance...
Gary

I went with the GM OEM bra. The fit is great. I like that it has snaps in the wheel wells vs. velcro. Additionally, I ordered the Zo6 bra because I did not like the clear plastic over the fog lights that is on the bra for the coupe.

I also purchased the GM bra, and it's not a lot of money. $80 neighborhood. Only I have the LS1 bra, with the clear plastic covering the fog light area, but wish I had the Z06 bra, since I've opened up my fog light surrounds to get fresh cold air to intake. Only problem is that you can no longer purchase the Z06 bra from GM, only the LS1 bra is currently available. The bra fits tight, and no floppy what-so-ever. It works great on long trips to help keep bugs and road grime, and rocks from damaging the front end.
SPEED LINGERIE...lifetime warranty, triple thickness industrial grade vinyl, offered in colors, mirror covers available, unique tongue in groove attachment points, factory tested to 150mph w/o wind abrasion from flapping, clear plastic covers over openings, for C5 or Z06, with or without front plate opening.
Expensive, but so is repainting of the front fascia. I leave mine on all the time (over clean surface). It has prevented damage from rocks and alligators...
I have the GM OEM bra. Have taken several long road trips at interstate speed (75 - 80 mph) for long (8 hrs) intervals. No flapping and no paint damage.
Note: when driving in rain and bad weather or in dusty conditions the bra will pick up road grit that gets under the bra - especially in a rain storm in spring when the roads are still dirty from winter. Just check your bra from time to time and keep the soft under lining clean. You will see what I mean the first time you check it - it gets dirty underneath.
Also, when purchasing the OEM bra, get the one for the Z06 which has openings for the air grilles in case you ever want to open them up for a coupe or vert.
jovette, may sound nuts, but is it possible to cut out the plastic covering the fog light area? Without ruining the rest of the cover or making it look "tore up".
I'm considering a Vararam and obviously wouldn't want that area covered.

Anyone had any experance with a stretch bra ? Are they any good ?

Good question. I've given this some thought, and want to make sure I don't create problems with my actions. I don't think I should cut out the entire clear vinyl, because doing so, I fear, will cause air to get under the bra, and cause it to flap @ highway speed. I believe the GM Z06 bra has tabs that tuck between the fog light surrounds and car body, to help prevent this 'flapping', and of course my GM bra does not have these. Having said that, my thought is to cut holes into the clear vinyl, or to remove all but a strip about an inch wide that runs vertically in the middle of the clear vinyl. My hope would be that the remaining 1" or 11/2" strip would prevent flapping. Wonder if any other forum members have experimented with the GM bra in this regard?

They're easy to attach. They'll keep bugs off the front. They stretch tightly. They store away compactly.
They're a thin synthetic (SPANDEX?) material so will do little to protect against rock chips.

I had the Colgan bra. You can get them on ebay for about $140. I thought it was the best setup because it didn't have the plastic for the foglight openings. I felt the fit was great also.

You can open up the clear vinyl in a number of ways you just want to do it cleanly so it looks good.
I took a piece of rigid 1/2 copper pipe and sharpened it on one end around the circumference with a grinder to make it like a large tubular leather punch. Then I just punched nice clean holes through the clear vinyl in a geometrical pattern that removed most of the material but left some "webbing" for support. It looks real clean like it was bought that way. You could probably use 3/4" pipe and make larger holes and save some time. I don't have a Vararam but opened up the fog light cowls to let cold air into the engine compartment for the Blackwing. It worked. I will try to post some pictures.
Hi guys and gals..Thanks for all you input on C5 Bras..You were all very helpful ..I went with a GM OEM from supporting member vendor gmpatrshouse..
