Flushing old brake fluid

I want to flush the old brake fluid out but don't know how much new fluid I need to do the job. Anyone help me out with how much I need to buy? A quart? 2 quarts?

I think the system capacity is 2 pints=1 qt. However, if you truly want to get ALL the bad fluid out, my experience is that you must do a four wheel bleed FOLLOWED by a long test drive in which you hit activate the ABS unit numerous times. Then, you have to bleed all four calipers some more.

So, if the fluid is 5-10 year old nasty fluid, I might get 2 qts even though if it's 1 year old fluid, all you need is 1qt.

Good estimate...
I replaced my master cylinder and bled the brakes at each caliper and used less than 1 quart.

I bought 2 qts. and had about a 1/2 left and I was VERY thorough

Definetely start with at least 1 quart, but if you bought 2 quarts all you'd have to do is return the other later.

It's suggested to buy a Brake Fluid of a different color like PURPLE, BLUE etc.

This enables you to see for certain when you have reached the calipers with the new fluid and there is no guessing. Just a suggestion. Enjoy
