Hi, I have a 2002 corvette with the daul climate controle, for the drivers side and pasenger side..the other night i was out in it and when the heater was on it never got that hot of air blowing out the passenger side vents..not like the drivers side did..it did get warm just not as hot..why would this be..i tried turning the heat all the way on the pasenger side.and then turn up the heater tell i think it said like about 90...and it still stayed the same..just the drivers side got hotter..Could use your help on this one..if its happend to you what was it?.. Thanks dbiddle
And how should it be set to get the heat to be the same out of both sides?..
My interpretation of the system is that what ever the driver side temperature is set at becomes the MAX temperature for the passenger. Say for example you set the driver side heat to 82*. This means that if the passenger cranks the **** to full out heat, their max temp is only 82*. another way of looking at is is that the driver sets the cap for the heat...
Someone correct me if i'm wrong please this was just what I observed with the short time i've spent in mine
I'm not sure if the driver's side determines what the passenger side can be. However, try this same thing with the A/C. If it happens with the A/C, then you have a problem with the actuator, which is a door under the dash that directs hot or cold air to either side of the car's vents. If this is what is going on, there is a way to "reset" the gears inside this to allow it to work correctly. Do a search for" resetting A/C actuators" or actuator doors. Is is a bit of a pain to do, but it will fix the problem.
I've seen that people are pulling out Fuse #27, reinstalling it and one minute later, the problems are usually resolved. Now I've never actually done that myself, so don't hold me to it as a fix. The driver's side temperature is the master temp for the car. The passenger side control is an over-ride that will allow it to be a little warmer or cooler than the driver's side... but only a little.
dgrant3830 has it right. There are actually 2 servo doors that control the heating and cooling. On my son's C5 we could not get the doors to re-synch, so we pulled the dash and found that the plastic gears had cracked due to the extreme heat here in Phoenix. The new units were EXPENSIVE, to say the least and were a regular pain to install. However, the new units have an upgraded design that should make them a whole lot more stable. Whenever the power is interrupted (battery disconnected or dead) the fuse #27 routine needs to be done. The doors open fully, then close fully and then repeat the process. The computer needs to find the full open and closed readings from the actuators. Once that is done (it's automatic after you pull the fuse) everything will return to normal. Two things that we learned from this....1) If you keep getting an "out of range" code in the DIC, you probably have at least one bad actuator. 2) If you get cold air out of the passenger side vents, but hot out of the driver's side vents, you are probably low on freon. This last one REALLY threw us for a curve. It happened right after we replaced both actuators. We evacuated and recharged the system and the A/C worked perfectly.
