I am not new to mods but have a question about one inparticular. I keep seeing posts for a TransGo shift Kit for an A4, but am not 100% sure what exactly this is. I assume it is a kit to improve shifting charateristics, making them more quick and crisp.
I have a powerloader II currently and that firmed up the shift points quite a bit. How does the TransGo Shift Kit work in combination with the Powerloader II reprogramming? Will there be much difference?
What Performance/SOTP difference can I expect with this Mod?
What actually does TransGo Kit physically consist of
(What do you get when you order it?)
Price for Kit? Price for Install?
Also, I am planning on getting 3.42 gears and a Yank3000/3500 in the near future.
Re: What exactly is a TransGo Shift Kit? (2001 Red Coupe Bandit)
Think of the PLII as a software enhancement; it increases line pressure to give you firmer shifts. Think of the shift kit as a hardware upgrade; through the use of heavier springs and such it will give you faster, stronger shifts. It is entirely compatable with the PLII.
Re: What exactly is a TransGo Shift Kit? (2001 Red Coupe Bandit)
Bandit....I can't say enough good things about this product for the A4 C5! To just elaborate on what Buckmaster started, when you install a aftermarket hi stall converter the converter now has to "catch up"" with the revs of the engine to actually engage.Even with the PLII programming there will be a delay, a soft shift for a matter of seconds until the converter locks up and you actually feel the car engage. This is most noticeable during 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle. Whent the Transgo kit installed properly it will remove ANY delay or soft slow shifts. The result is a powerful sharp and immediate shift,UP or Down....and you can hold the gear for a longer time. It's probably the best kick in the pants I've experienced with all my mods.Any one that has driven in my car usually grins after the 1-2 shift at WOT. It's really a great mod.:yesnod:
As stated before ,if there is only a stock converter you should be ok with the PLII for now.The stall speed is considerably lower and it hooks up much sooner. Hope this helps....:D
Re: What exactly is a TransGo Shift Kit? (2001 Red Coupe Bandit)
Thanks for all the replys. Like I said I am looking in the near future at getting a Yank 3500 and a 3.42 gears, or just keeping my 3,15's and getting a Yank 3000.
I was always weary of the loose feeling that a TC will give you. It souds like the TransGo Shift Kit helps that a lot!!! it also sounds like a Mod to do only once you get a TransGo Shift Kit. Hey if you get a high stall converter, do you also have to send back your powerloader for reprogramming or would the shift kit fix that? Probally need to send it to Steve Cole and have reprogrammed either way I assume?...... Does Steve Cole Program for the Shift Kit, do you need to tell him your getting one????
Also, no one said what the Kit consists of?? What are the parts? Install Costs?? Etc..................
Re: What exactly is a TransGo Shift Kit? (2000^C5)
More questions....
I'm the slow stupid guy here I guess, but is it safe to install the transgo kit on a 100% stock A4? Will that make the difference, or do you have to do other stuff too? Does it void your warranty? Will it cause un-natural wear?
I'm really interested here....
Re: What exactly is a TransGo Shift Kit? (NoVector)
:seeya Don't fret ..the Transgo shift kit is a natural enhancement for ANY A4.After my PLII program the car would get the impulse to shift but electronically but could not carry out the impulse mechanically quick enough to get a crisp shift.Depending on the converter the delay can be a split second to 2 seconds. The stock converter was designed by GM to generally please everybody( not us gearheads for sure) and they did that.. That's why the Transgo kit is so impressive ,it will enhance ANY A4 ,converter or not. There are springs and spacers that come with the kit.You can choose between 1 spacer for street performance or 2 spacers for street/strip or 3 for race only(to radical for me). This is not a mod you will be sorry you installed.
It's the best kept secret I know for a inexpensive mod.:yesnod:
Will it void your warranty?...If they know you have it..perhaps.But I doubt that they would look into the transmission valve body for any reason except for a transmission claim..Why would they? The fact is that the quicker shifts will actually prolong the life of the transmission. There is alot of information on the video that comes with the kit.So if you order it..watch the tape and you will understand WHY it works. If you don't care to continue with the install..return the kit or sell it here on the forum.I'm sure there are plenty of takers..:D.
Re: What exactly is a TransGo Shift Kit? (2001 Red Coupe Bandit)
It is cool, I had it installed when they did my TC mod. Word of caution for those of you that do PL to firm up shift software. If you already have the transgo they don't recommend doing the software upgrade to firmer shifts because it is overkill and could damage you tranny over time.
Re: What exactly is a TransGo Shift Kit? (vstella)
Hey vstella - you convinced me a few weeks that the transgo kit was going to be my next mod. Since then I stopped in a local trans shop to ask if they had installed kit before, and what it would cost. They had no interest in doing it because of voiding the warranty on an expensive trans, but if I absolutely insisted they would install for $200. I'll need to find a shop thats a little more enthusiastic about doing the job. I have been on the forum for a few months now and have read about the problems that the C5's all have in common, but I've read very little about transmissions failing (A4). If I'm going to void the warranty I'd like to know if there are any inherent problems first. Anyone with stock A4 problems, please post. Thanks - Walt :seeya
