Default Cd Changer Mounting kit

I am installing a 12 disc changer i my C5 , I have come up with the proper harness for wiring it in , There is a installation kit GM part number # 12497876 ,I can't find out what the kit consists of and can't find any picture of it .I Need the mounting plate (gets riveted to fiberglass) for attaching the "L" brackets from the changer to the rear storage tub where it will live .I have seen several post where guys have used cookie sheets and all kind of stuff, but I want the correct part so it will be done correctly. Any help will be appreciated.

If you've got the harness, that seems to be the hardest part to find anymore.

The oem GM installation kit that I bought had all of the brackets, plus the harness. I had one of the site supporting vendors search the GM database for mine. He found only three in the whole country...two years ago.

I bought my CD changer used from a member. It came with only the side brackets. I have a spare set of those if you're interested.

You could probably make the larger bracket out of heavy gauge steel plate if you're handy at DIY. The lip is at the top edge, with four holes for 1/8" rivets. Instead of the recommended GM epoxy, I used very heavy duty VELCRO so the bracket/harness could be removed in the future for resale. It holds very well in AZ temperatures. There are four welded studs that secure the side brackets.

Here's an image of the bracket. A company called CORVETTE SOUTH might have this kit, but it obviously includes the harness. You might be able to sell your harness.

That GM part #12497876 apparently has been discontinued. It's no longer listed at gmpartsdirect nor do they show any replacement number.

I do believe it is the same part number of the oem GM installation kit I bought though.

Here is an old thread that has some other possible sources...

The plate is not available separately. You might get lucky and find one at a source that deals in salvaged C5 Corvettes. Or maybe someone converting their car to track use only...

I just finished installing a CD changer in my Z06 last month. I checked out a salvage shop here in Tampa but the OE bracket was not worth the trouble IMO. If you want to mount the CD changer in the OE location your best bet is to get self tapping screws and mount the changer. I would also use sealer applied to each hole you drill for the CD brackets. I would also suggest mounting it in the passengers side rear storage tray. I mounted mine there. I drilled 4 holes mounted with stainless steel bolts/washers which I had to add sealer around the back side since they face the inside wheel well. I myself always thought the center storage on the C5 got too hot on long drives. The CD changer and heat IMO are a bad combo.

Hi Rich ,When you put the changer in the side compartment does that enable you to put bolts with rubber sealant washers and nuts on .If it does I think you may be on to something. I just want to secure it and have it sealed enough so that the bolt holes don't become elongated .If I could use Stainless bolts with stainless fender washers, rubber sealing washers and nuts, I would feel that it was properly installed. Thanks for you suggestion really makes a lot of sense. Could you send a pic of your install ,3whit@comcast.net ,Thanks again Rick

It was a while ago but I got my CD bracket kit from either Eckler's or Mid-America, I just don't remember which one but it was definetely one of the two, because I got the harness from whichever was the other one. Give them a try.

There is enough space to bolt the changer to the front side on the side compartment. I placed the changer in the compartment then marked the holes then drilled the 4 holes. You will have to remove the rear wheel and wheel well splash shield to assess the holes you drill to mount the changer.
I had to trim the carpet a little so the brackets fit and the wiring is hidden. It sits about 1 inch above the trunk floor. I have a pic of the cd changer mounted.
