I have my car in the dealer right now getting that same thing fixed. It popped up on my car on Friday and so I took it in this morning. I am not sure what they did to fix it but it was ready very quickly. I was just glad it didn't lock on me like it's done twice in the past. I had the column lock bypass installed previously and it was related to this they said.

Oh Lord.... I think the dreaded Column Lock monster has struck again. Can you turn the wheel? The C5's have real trouble with their column locks, there is a TSB (Tech. Service Bulletin) out for most C5's for column lock service. Someone will chime in here soon...

There is a recall on the SCL problem. You should have recieved a letter from GM. Some, like me didn't, but are still in the recall. Contact your local dealer, they will check the TSB and the VIN included in the recall. You can then have them do the repair, if you can drive it into the dealer or have it towed on a flat bed. I am sure the numbers included in the recall are posted somewhere, I just don't know where to tell you to look. It's a common problem that has laid silent for awhile and apparently has decided to surface again.
