Does anyone know how involved the repair is to replace the lens (plastic from what I can gather) since it seems the top portion of the HUD slips right out of the dashboard?? My car is week old and it appears it is scratched from the underside of the plastic and not top side (scratched in Bowling Green instead of the dealer scratching it)?? Thoughts??
Hi Vince - mine cracked .. car is 2 weeks old ,, does not look to be to complicated .. very filmsy .. piece of plastic .. .. Let me know if you find out how to replace it.. Joe
Hi,
I would think this is a warrenty claim and I looked up the HUD replacement in the facory service manuel.
The get to the plastic one must first remove the upper dash pad.
Once removed the HUD unit appears to come off the car with two nuts...HOWEVER...the picture makes it look like the plastic is sealed to the HUD unit.
Personally, I would have the dealer do this one soup to nuts because of the anticipated cost of a HUD replacement part. Perhaps I would investigate and see if they would work with me so I could remove the dash pad myself (not to difficult).
I looked this up as well. It's appears to be part of the HUD. Have it replaced under warranty. If you do it yourself and do any damage, you may void your warranty on the damaged item(s).
When you take the car in to the dealer, have the service writer verify that there are no scratches on the inside of your windshield. Then check it for yourself, in bright sunlight at different angles, when you get it back. My issue came from a different repair and insurance paid for the W/s, but best to cover all the bases.
