Is this the amount of oil you usually put in at oil change?
The oil pan on a 2000 holds 6 ½ quarts. I put an even 7 quarts in my car at oil change.
The friend (original owner) from whom I purchased my 2000, would put in 6 quarts or slightly less than 6 quarts and that would not set off the low oil indicator. Car uses no oil between changes.
Could you have dislodged the connector?
From the manual –
The Oil Level switch is a normally open switch. When the oil level is within an acceptable range the Oil Level switch closes. The switch opens when the engine oil level drops below a predetermined amount.
Also from the 2000 manual -
Is the customers concern that oil was just added or that an oil change was just done and the Low Oil Level message did not clear?
1. Start the engine.
2. Allow the engine to reach the specified temperature. Important
The ignition must remain OFF for a minimum of one hour.
3. Turn OFF the ignition for one hour.
thanks alot guys for the replies, im going out now to recheck it to make sure its all the way full, yes its always been right at 6 qrts to fill mine,

Mine has the opposite problem, I once tried putting in only 5qts at oil change time, just to see if the low oil level indicator would come on and it did not! I even left it that way for a couple of days before adding the other 2 quarts, and the DIC still did not warn me that the level was low. So much for that idea!
Do you have longtubes? My wire loom had gotten a little close to the header and melted right off. Something to check anyways. Sensor is on the pass side below the starter.

Our 2000 vert owners manual calls for 6.5 and yet it too always takes 7 quarts (mobil-1 5w30) to get its level perfect (included in the 7 quarts is the pre-filling of the mobil-1 oil filter).
However, the differences between members may be based on oil draining techniques or oil filter brands.
I haven't measured the volume differences, but the difference of the car being level versus the pan being level versus the pan being slightly tipped forward, could easily explain the differences members experience.
FYI, the manual notes the oil pan needs to be level (or nearly level) when doing oil changes, due in part to the internal baffling in the pan.
btw, using my custom wood lifting pads under the cross-members and jack stands thereunder, the rear jack stands need to be 1 notch higher for a level car/pan and 2 notches higher for a slightly tipped forward oil pan when doing an oil change.
