When I parked my baby last night, all was fine, but as I'm riding to work this AM I noticed the drivers side mirror isn't in the correct position. So I rolled down the window and try and lock it back in place, NO Luck! The damn thing just flops aroound.
I called my tech at the GM place and he said he'd probabally have to replace the whole mirror!?! WTF?!? He said none of his C5's (he works on all the C5's in town) have had this problem yet, but he had worked on quite a few S-10's and that was the case.
I'd have to buy a whole new mirror, have it painted and then he'd install it. He said between $250-300 when it's all said and done! :mad Is this right?
There is a fix that involves screwing the pieces together. My GM dealer gave me an estimate of $315 for a new mirror and paint. I used the screw method and have had zero problems. This fix took maybe 30 minutes. Had trouble getting the pilot hole drilled at first but well worth the time. Do a search on the archieved topics with mirror in the title.
Every "common" problem that C5's have, I have had it. Mirror break, column lock, battery, fuel sending unit, tire sensors, etc. but still LOVE this car.
Yeap, that's a problem. I've gone thru four right mirrors and one left!
If you don't want to buy a new mirror?
I did a power point slide on how to fix it! If you have a power point I can send you the file! It's big file. But the job is easy to do!
