I have a 2000 coupe and my intake numbers start out with 125 is that a LS6 or LS1 intake? Any information to tell the difference would be helpful
thanx
Rick
LS1 and LS6 used the same intake starting in 2001...so technically, there is no "LS6 intake". If your intake is original, then it is the old style(lower hp). There is no way to tell a pre 2001 for a 2001+ intake except for the cast number (when it's installed on the engine). Just giving the first three numbers does not help...need the whole number.
what kind of hp can i get from the upgrade to a ls6 intake?
I have an 00 coupe also and was thinking of the same up grade. But for the total cost of a used ls6 and labor to install I changed my mind. If you do a search there is a write-up about ls1 ls6 and after market intakes.
If I remember the hp gain is in the 15 to 20 hp's (don't quote me it maybe less) in the high RPM range over 5000. I don't drive in that range alot so the cost wasn't worth it to me. G/L let us know what you do..

I have to agree. I put one on my heads and cam 2000 trans am and honestly I felt nothing. I'm sure it would show it on a dyno in the upper rpm but my butt dyno was reading no gain
but they did a few other things in '01 too...so at best you might expect 5HP...realistically, perhaps more efficiency but no real HP to talk about...

well crap! thanx for the info and help guys it saved me a install and some cash! i figured if i got a ls6 intake and ported it and ported a tb with my vararam shoving air in it then it may be worth the upgrade and see some good results from it.
it is worth the upgrade. U will have better throttle responce, have a cleaner air flow to the heads, gain some HP and gain alittle MPG with it. if you port your Throttle body you'll feel it even more. DO not take it to a shop todo the install, it took me less then 2 hours to install mine, i did it between classes on wednesday lol. IN the end if you do any other mods to the car the intakes performance will increase with every change in flow.

Not a complete list. There are litterally something like 8 different casting numbers that refer to LS1/LS6 intakes. Best thing is to google the actual p/n to see if it's what you want.

Basis for saying that - LS1 engine rating went from 345 to 350 when the LS6 manifold was used on the LS1.
Absent cam, headers, and other mods, a freer flowing manifold doesn't boost power that much.

Even though engine rating from GM went from 345 to 350 in 01, you have to remember that the cam for 01 was much smaller. So I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a greater than 5hp gain. I've never found anyone who didn't think the mod wasn't worth doing just for the improved throttle response and midrange power.

I gained 2rwhp/2rwtq by adding an LS6 intake and a ported stock TB. The car hasn't been retuned for the mods yet, but will be getting done in the next couple weeks. The car ran a little lean after those mods.

I did this mod on my 2000, and I did the install myself. Since the 2000 has the highest lift and longest duration of any LS1 camshaft, it stands to gain the most from this mod. Remember that the '01s all got the pup cats installed and they take 5 hp, so the '01-'04s probably gained 10 hp, and maybe 20-25lbs torque, over the '97-'99 LS1s, so I'
d guess the intake is worth maybe up to 15 hp on the 2000 LS1
