Default Z06 muffler cleanup and installation

I just scored a set of slightly used Z06 mufflers on eBay. I'm not planning on a serious polish job, but can anyone recommend a good way to clean and lightly polish the titanium mufflers and pipes prior to the installation? I've read a few locked threads about installing these -- it sounds like I'm going to have to find a shop with a lift rather than risk jacking it to the necessary height. Other than dropping the rear sway bar, is there anything else I need to know? Are there gaskets at the pipe flanges I need to get from the dealer, or possibly new rubber mounts or hangers at the rear? Thanks for your input

I paid about $75 to have a muffler shop install them and I helped. If you have an auto transmission, there is a heat shield on the right which should be removed. If there were gaskets, it was no problem to reuse them.

polishing is a waste of time.....unless you never start the car

Agreed - I realize that titanium discolors with heat... maybe "polish" is the wrong word. I'm thinking more about just getting them clean and presentable while they are off the car, since I know I'll never be able to spruce them up once they are on the car.

I cleaned my Ti's up w/my BBQ grill brush, the mufflers turned out nice and clean w/a little shine. (then I replaced the brush before my wife got home) installing is a do it yourself. the back of the car has to be about 2 1/2 feet off the ground. if you don't know anyone w/a lift or have good jack stands (like 5 ton jack stands, 2 or 3 ton will not get the *** end up as high). if you will not be able to get the car high enough off the ground you may need to take it to a garage. I also picked up a set of used ZO6 mufflers, and used EagleOne never-dull to clean/polish them up, it did a great job.

I have cleaned/polished a couple sets using a brass-bristled brush and Simple Green. Ti is very tough so this will not scratch it.

Patches that looks amazing. Did you use the brass brush on the tips, or just the mufflers?

Used the brush and SG on the entire assembly - mufflers, pipes and tips.

I used ultra fine steel wool and WD-40 to polish my Ti exhaust. IT worked amazing and the exhaust looks like new.

Since Ti doesn't blemish and tarnish like steel, they can be made to look like new anytime.

Took me less than an hour total and it's a must for a car stored on a lift.
