Default Battery charger

I know enough about mechanics to be dangerous. My battery on my '99 FRC goes dead in less than 2 weeks. Normal? I have a die-hard battery charger w/engine starter. I've charged it a couple times with the battery out of the car. I want to try it while leaving it in, but I want to be sure of what I'm doing. #1, it is a negative ground, right? #2. Where do I put the black ground cable? Is there something on the top, because I'm not sure the charger cable is long enough to go to something on the block or frame. I, obviously don't want to fry anything.

If it goes dead at only 2 weeks your battery is not up to snuff. I've got a 5 year old Optima Redtop that people like to bash so much and I can go over a month without starting and no problem. Yes it's a negative ground, and if I have to jump start my car (I've let it go dead a few times, I inadvertently unpluged my battery tender this winter and it went about 2 1/2 months) I just connect the black jumper cable to the negative post on the battery, but my car's an 04 with top post.
