Default Questions about 402 build?

I am about to begin my build. Will begin with a forged 402 with Eagle, Diamond, Total Seal, Fed Mogul. Pistons are -2cc. I will be NA. No plans for FI or Nitrous.

I have two head options (because I have both in my garage).

First a set of Stage III Patriot LQ9 heads.

The other option is AFR 205, milled to 59cc.

My cam is a Comp XER 244/248 612/615 114+4.

Kooks 1 3/4 with 3" DMH cutouts and ZO6 Ti exhaust

Mizeire EWP

TPIS ported LS6 with Billet TPIS 85mm oval TB

I think that is all that matters for power production?

Any suggestions on milling the Patriot heads for NA application? Any issues with PTVC for the AFR @ 59cc? Head gasket size for max efficiency?

Thanks

The AFR's will undoubtably produce more power than a "budget" head, and with a thicker deck will be much more rigid (although mostly important for FI applications) - If you have the cash to swing the AFR's I would without a doubt to it.

Also, with a big cube motor like your building, I would go with 1 7/8 headers, and a FAST 92/92 setup.

Also it's impossible to judge the PTVC with the information given, or the correct head gasket thickness.

Will the block be decked?
If so, what will the height be set at?
Valve sizes?
What CR are you aiming for?

Do the math on those 205's for the CR with 2cc pistons.. That would be my choice but you're CR is going to be through the roof (over 13:1) unless you get the chambers opened up and run a stock gasket.

Sell the AFRs and the intake. Use the extra money to:

1. Get the stage IIIs milled to 66cc (use stock gaskets.. .052)
2. Buy a ported Fast 92mm intake and 95mm TB
3. ARP bolts (if you don't already have them)

CR = 11.6
DCR = 8.4

Thanks bro. I got rid of the PP heads and am selling the AFR. I plan to get TFS 215 or 225. I can change the intake out easily at any time so that will come later. Plus I want to see what the gains are. Based on this article I found the TFS cant be touched although the AFR was a 205 and the TFS is only a 205 so that probably accounts for the difference.

I would definitely take a set of AFR 225 but dont know if that is in my budget.

The AFR's and TFS heads will cost relatively the same ammount, though if it were my decision I would go TFS, they seem to have a lot of happy customers!

The Trickflow's are really nice and always make big power. I would do the 225cc for your 402ci.

$2379 - Trickflow CNC Ported 225cc

Yes, the Trickflow's require Roller Rocker Arms and .100" longer Pushrods. I recommend the Yella Terra Ultralite's.

No, you don't have to sell them. The Harland Sharp Rockers will work just fine.

So do almost any aftermarket head - not just TFS. The stock rockers will wear the valve guides prematurely due to geometry in TFS, AFR, etc.
