Default Dash lights delayed, problem getting worse!

2000 Corvette FRC

When i turn on my headlights OR parking lights my interior dash lights ( cluster, radio ) don't come on until about 10 - 15 minutes after i have been driving.... if i shut the lights all off and turn them back on after they have been on for a while, then still delay... but the delay is more like 4 or 5 minutes rather than 10.

This problem started a few months ago... they delays at first were no more than 1 minute...

Note: i also noticed that when the dash lights are not lit, but the headlights are on, my fog lights won't turn on either.

Thanks in advance for any help fellas!

Bad multifunction switch. You can replace it or clean the contacts within.

Can i clean the contacts on the multifunction switch without removing the steering wheel etc??

The problem is quite annoying.. i just want to be certain what the cause is before i go attempting to pull off my steering wheel etc...

No interior lights ( speedo, radio, heater cont. )
No tail lights ( blinkers and brakes still work fine )

Any links to threads with a walkthrough of cleaning the contacts on that switch?

Look in the sticky at the top from Bill Curlee. He's got lots of great pictures in there and I believe the headlamp switch is in there too. You do not need to remove the steering wheel. Gene Culley has the switch at $211 last I looked. There's another place with it a lot cheaper and its the correct switch...I know, I bought one and it was perfect. PM me if you wish the site as they are not a forum sponsor

I found that DIY thread. It's perfect!! Thanks so much!

I am a sales manager at a GM dealership, so i can snag a new GM switch on the cheap if need be. But i'll probably just re-adjust the contacts in the switch rather than spend the money on a new one.

Thanks again for the help!!
