According to UPS scales. One rear rim weighs around 19lbs. The front weighs around 17lbs.

Someone posted some time ago that they had both kinds of wheels and the mags saved half a pound each wheel.

That is what I will be investing in next is some new rubber all around. My back seem to be very low and the fron in excellent shape I do not spin the tires and im the only one who ever drives my car. so just to save some major $$$$$$$$ I will be going with some non-runflats plus they cost way to much to get patched $50.00 a pop every time I run over a nail :mad . Any advice you can give me on non runflats as far which ones are better?

I noticed when comparing the different Manufacturers of runflat tires that they vary in weight. The Yokos are listed at 2# front and 4# rear less than the Goodyears with the Firestones almost the same as the Goodyears. The Firestones without the runflat feature weigh about 4# less on the front tires than those having the runflat feature.

It doesn't appear that the weight of the wheel makes much different when considering the much larger difference in weight amongst the various tires available for the C5.

Does anyone know where we can find the weights of all the popular C5 replacement tires available, both runflats and non-funflats?

I can answer on what one of the popular replacement wheels weigh. The CCW 9.5x18 for the front weighs 21# the 11x18 rear weighs 21.4#. Not bad for larger, stronger rims. I heard someone say the chrome repros were around 25-27# but I can't confirm that weight.

I saw a post about a year ago on this subject, if I remember correctly the heaviest factory wheels were supposed to be the 97-99 painted or polished, the factory mags were a little lighter, and the 00-02 painted or polished were said to the the lightest. Sorry, I can't verify any of that.

[QUOTE]Someone posted some time ago that they had both kinds of wheels and the mags saved half a pound each wheel.

Got to be more than that... I switch mine 'cause I like the look of mag. wheel, the wt saving is a plus. I had stock 99 OEM side by side w/ the mag. NO QUESTION the mag weigh considerably less just by feel. Don't have anything to weigh them, can't tell you the exact poundage...Don't think I'll be able to tell thouh if it is just .5-1 lbs per wheel diff. I wouldn't be surprised if the mag weigh 20-25% less. earlier post claim about 4lbs?...

My ocean..........My reason for going with the magnesium rims was purely cosmetic. The weight savings is negligible, if any. Even if the total weight savings is 10 lbs., will that make any difference?

Just for argument's sake, lets agree that Mag rims save 10 lbs.

Since that 10 pounds rotates, and weight that rotates slows acceleration down more than weight that just stays put by a factor of about 4X--this means that those mag rims allow acceleration as if the car weight was reduced by 40 lbs.

Its not just the weight savings, its the saving of weight in the right places
(wheels, tires, flywheels, undercut gears, lightened cranks, con rods,...) that pays off with performance.

Where did the 4X multiple come from?

Where did you get the 4X figure?
