Re: what do you need to get teched for 11's (ToplessTexan)
i just went thru all this myself this past summer + i have the rulebook (2001) in front of me:
For all factory vehicles (non-convertible) with stock frame and firewall in place, in order to run 10.00 to 11.99 up to 135mph you will require:
1) snell approved helmet
2) 5 point roll cage
3) 5 point restraining harness
4) entry level fire jacket
5) driveshaft loop if running slicks
there are details to each of these requirements, such as tube wall thickness of the cage, SFI-approved harness and jacket, etc. These requirements dont change fi you're looking for just 11 second car; all still required even if you on run a 11.99 or a 10.00 up to 135mph. any more details wanted, let me know. for those running nitrous, gotta have blowdown tube. hope this helps.
Re: what do you need to get teched for 11's (rwj383)
So what you are telling me is that there is no 11 second tech. It goes from 12 to 10? It will be some time before I am in the 10's (6 months to 1 year).
Re: what do you need to get teched for 11's (ICULUKN-C5)
You will need a scattershield, but I'm not well versed on the transaxle setup. I've yet to see someone kicked out for not having one on a Vette.
You will definitely need a fire jacket and the 6-pt bar/cage like everyone else is saying.
135+mph means you will have to have 9-second requirements. 8pt+ roll cage, 9-sec liscense, etc.
10.99 and faster requires c-clip eliminator bearings for the rear axles as well, but again, forgive me as I'm not that acquainted with the drive axle setup on the Vette. This may not be applicable for you.
Re: what do you need to get teched for 11's (ICULUKN-C5)
You need the items rjw383 has in his reply (except loop for C5) to run ets between 11.999 and 10.000. You cannot be faster than 135mph.12s only require a helmet.9.999 or over 135mph require NHRA certified cage.
Re: what do you need to get teched for 11's (mackeyred96)
i ordered my firejacket and 5 point harness from Summit. the Harness is a relatively inexpensive Simpson setup with latch (not quick release-which i recommend. the latch is a pain to fiddle with when at front of staging lane getting ready to pull up). the jacket is an RJS Racing Equipment jacket for ~$60. the harness was ~$60 too. just to clarify, the roll bar only needs to be 5 point if you are not a convertible.
