Default CLB - K Harness Question.

Is there any need to install the aftermarket CLB if the deal is installing the K Harness to prevent the steering wheel from locking?

If they have not done it STOP them!!!! DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH IT!!!!!They will create more problems than they will solve!! !. the K harness is crap,,and will fail in the future and strand you,, and 2. they will probably program the 2mph fuel cut off which can also strand you if you get the PULL KEY WAIT 10 SECONDS or service column lock message. I had the K harness and it failed stranding me. There are hundreds of cases reported here!! DON'T DO IT!!!! If it's in,,get it out ASAP and install a CLB!!

Here is where i was confused, i read somewhere that i couldn't install the CLB if the steering wheel had already locked up. And i couldn't find any information on how to unlock it, so i just had it taken to the dealership. Are you saying i can install the CLB while the steering wheel is locked up?

Most CLB kits come with an adapter to plug in power to retract the lock pin prior to installation. Instructions should be included with it!! The less the dealer does the better. Just to be clear,,you remove the K harness first.

Thanks for all the information. But the dealer is doing doing everything out of their pocket. Labor and parts because when they did the recall they dealership didn't do it rite, they told me the K harness fail somehow. So they told me they would cover all cost. Im think im just going to wait till they get the steering unlocked and install the new k harness. Then ill just take off the one they put on and replace it with the CLB. I ordered my CLB lastnite from Corvettes of Houston.

Good plan...the dealer should remove the lockplate so the column cannot lock, and all you need to worry about is the relay to send the signal back to the BCM.
If GM has improved the quality of their Harness K relays, you might just leave it installed and carry the aftermarket CLB in the car as a backup.
I have had a GM Harness K relay in my 04 for 5 years and it is still working fine, but I got one of the original relays before GM switched suppliers (white relays).

Install the CLB!! Unless they have changed procedures,,part of the dealer fix includes a reprogram of the computer. That shuts the fuel off when you get the 10 second message or the service column lock message. Even if the wheel will turn the fuels shut off will strand you. That is the exact circumstance that stranded me last September!! I would definitely install the CLB!!
