Bought a 99 vette with 11,000 miles only driven it 4 times cause of the weather. Noticed the last time I took it out had trouble getting it into reverse. It seemed to hang up 1/2 way into gear, like it was struck on a syncro (?) The car was cold and hadnt been driven for about 4 weeks. Is this normal. It's still under warranty so I can take it in, just would rather not.
Thanks
Mine hangs up a little bit when its cold. Put the car in reverse, then slowly let off the clutch while pushing the shifter into gear. It will go the rest of the way.
I have the same problem eversince I bought it new. Just put into any forward gear i.e 1,3 or 5 gear first, and back into reverse. This works for me everytime. Hope this helps.
Same problem. I thought it was a weak slave clutch pump. Vettenam's solution works for me as well. I guess it is an undocumented "feature" of the 6spd vette.

This is what I do as well. I've always put it in first, driven forward a couple inches, then gone into reverse with no effort. I may be able to skip the roll, I'll have to try that next time.

Every manual transmission I have had/driven from a Lotus to a Freightliner has done the same thing when going into reverse. I think that when we start the vehicle, the clutch pedal is pushed in and things aren't spinning in the transmission. Now, why the stars, planets, gears and syncros line up when you select a forward gear with the clutch pedal pushed in is a mystery to me. :smash:
Whether you are parking your car in a garage or in your driveway...just turn off your engine in "reverse." The next day its' already there and you won't have a problem since the next time you need to use it...it will already be warmed up and you shouldn't have any problem getting it into reverse. Just my .02 cents worth.
