Check for codes, also brake pedal switch out of adjustment! Easy stuff first.

Did you install the cooler in the return line to the tranny?

Its the upper line coming from the radiator.

Look for codes, post them if you have any. Next, describe the problem you are having in detail. Temps, when it occurs and such. Are you having trans isues or just hot? Or?? Also, list all mods and some history. A high stall converter may just run hot, a stock one will run cooler for example.

I'm no expert, but I'd think your taking a stab at the problem. May be right, may be wrong. Give some details and see what people have to say about your issues.

Tranny still shifting fine ,no slipping ,etc. just getting hot. Drove to tranny guys shop it got up to 233 deg. Ilet it stil we put a scanner on it &nothing was reading , temp was going up conv. wasnt locking up . stopped for a sec & then everything started reading on the scanner , temp started dropping, running fine. then went to a tiere shop ,fine on way home pulled over when 255 hit waited started home again pulled in drive 260 deg. fluid wasn't burnt still a good red color?????????? idon't know any sugg. would be appreciated . Make sure any rubber lines aren't kinked.

p1870 as far as I can tell is a trans code for slipage. I'm no expert, but from what I read it could be the tc, valves or clutch packs. Doesn't look like a quick fix, sorry. Hope I'm wrong.

Is your cruise control inoperative when this happens?
When you're experiencing the problem take your left foot and lift up on the bottom of the brake pedal. If the problem goes away I suspect the brake pedal switch is out of adjustment.

But, since you're getting a code I don't know. My A4 runs the temps up and down from 165 to 220 basically everyday.

Your problem may be caused by the converter not locking up, rather than vice-versa. Not locking up will cause the transmission temperature to increase. Check for misfires. That will cause issues with converter lockup. May as well try the easy things first. Good luck!

Default 1870 code

That code is telling you there is slipage. It is very generic. Check to see if converter is locking up. 4 gears plus lockup feels like five gears. Go count them. Also can check on highway by pushing brake lightly and seeing revs raise. Anyway if you put in a converter that does not have a carbon style clutch it will burn up. You must change from pulse width modulating lockup to the old on or off style. I found this out when rebuilding my trans. I have a yank 3200ss and called them to see what needed to be done. I ordered the part from probuilt automatics in california off ebay they were very helpfull. Also the trans must be retuned with your other mods and by someone who knows what they are doing. These trans and computers have slip built in so old farts dont complain that they shift to hard. Also called torque managment. It will take a hard shift and think something is wrong then retune itself and put slip in next time. Lose it.... These new computers are very smart. Also do not turn up line pressure if you want better shifts put in better parts servos ect. The computer will balk at higher line pressure also. My vette drives fine firm 1-2 light 2-3 firm coverter lockup. light 3-4 when driving normal. Barks second hard and very firm 2-3 wide open. Any other ???? Email me back or at conner55@juno.com P.S. I removed built and installed my trans in my two car garage. Works great...

At 250 degrees your seals start hardening. I wouldnt go near that temp and I would change mu fluid if it did.
