Mods installed - got 371 rwhp with stock heads - ideas to get to 385-390??
Mods are in my sig (with stock heads and stock cats)- looking to add some more bolt ons to get up to 385-390 rwhp with stock heads. Here are a few of my ideas:
1) cat delete (Off Road x-pipe?)
2) MAFT
3) Ported TB
4) hypertech power tuning
I live in CA - so I am wondering if removing the cats is a stupid idea (its a daily driver and I have never smelled a car without cats - is it that bad?) Also, the sound concerns me as the car is loud as hell as is.....do I replace the cats with straight pipes or x-pipe? Also, I can use the hypertech tuning - anyone gain hp with this thing? I am currently using it for RPM limiter only....please give me opinions guys, thanks!

If you removed the cats, you might pick up a few extra peak rwhp, but most of your gains would be found in the lower end torque. Removing the cats does definitely increase how loud your car but its all a matter of how loud you like it. The smell isn't THAT bad unless you are standing directly behind the car.
I think you might squeak a few more HP out of the car with some custom tuning. Perhaps go to a shop near you that will have LS1Edit and a Wideband 02 on their dyno. If you tune the a/f and timing perfectly, you would probably pick up a bit of power.
Other than that, I think your heads will be your bottleneck and you wont get much more power without doing some porting.

Get the dyno tune with wideband and LS1 Edit.
You should be fine afterward. Also cats can go.

Leave the cats or just put high flow CL cats..
With that Cam....
I suggest ....
1. BPP Air-Foil MAF ends $155
2. 30#SVO injectors $200
3. MAFT w/Autotap $175
cheap!!
Tune with those right now. I'll bet you find another 15hp Easily if not more..
The bigger injectors will bring your timing up...Which will find more HP..

Oliver, how's your idle with that cam?
MAFT :yesnod:
I noticed slight improvement with HPPIII power tuning, but MAFT really brought everything together.

Idle is awesome - sounds a bit lumpy, but very liveable. Idles well without any kind of drilling, tuning, etc. Never died once, never surges, no codes et....I couldn't have asked for more!

DOH!
I feel like a dummy! I should have just read your mod list.
How much did you pay for the whole thing installed? CAM, Pulley, spring upgrade, Installation etc....

Chuckster - For the cam, pushrods, springs, pulley, TPIS LT, hypertech, LS6 intake I paid a total of $3000 (that's including ALL PARTS AND LABOR). Bought everything on a GP and had a great guy do the install......

Incedible numbers; you have me beat and I have heads.
I remember when you changed your torque converter from the PT-2900 to the 2400 at WCC, that was back in 2000! How time flys.

OLIVER, i am trying to do the same thing. the only difference in our mods are i have the HOT cam, stock maf,and fastchip programming.you would benefit a lot from some custon programming. heres what i turned on the rollers
i turned 371 rwhp.
i am going to add a MAFT,SLP bigger maf,deleting the remaining cats,asp pulleys,ported t-body, 1.8 jesel rockers,and the 30lb injectors,
with all those mods complete in the VERY near future i plan on scaring 400rwhp and 375rwtq to death. :yesnod:

Brad - weird how we have the same dyno results.....I guess your tuning makes up for my asp pulley......let's see who can get to 400 rwhp first with stock heads!!!!!! I wish it could be done! Keep us informed with your progress!!
