Default DIC light issue

My lights on the DIC buttons for the top two: fuel and the other keeps going off and on. The remainder of the lights for other buttons all work. Do you think this is a loose bulb issue or something worse?

How can the bulb connection be checked without dismantling dash?

DeeGee says Radioflyer is the HUD guru but haven't been able to contact him via forum!

Thanks a bunch!

Probably just the lamps failing. Forum member Tstar is the lamp guru.

Or the bulb for those two buttons is loose, either way you'll have to pull the IPC to verify it.

Those lamps are "Neo-Wedge" and are sort hard to come by but Tim has a good source and I think he's found a replacement lamp itself for the wedge bases. You can also replace the whole DIC controller itself and the last that I looked, I think it was around $70 some odd dollars...not sure now.

I was going to start a new thread but finally found this one after searching. The top two lights on my 2000 coupe also were not working when I bought the car and have not come on at all making me believe that a bulb or two bulbs are not working. Does anyone have any more information on replacing these bulbs in the DIC? It isn't a big deal but it would be nice to fix them if it is not too much of a hassle. Thanks!!

Use these instructions to get to the IPC, once it's out removing the switch is pretty straight forward...

Thanks tstar. Do you know if the bulbs can be replaced or will a new switch be necessary?

Yes you can replace the bulb very easily, only one lights up two buttons. It sits in a Wedge base bulb holder. This pic shows all the bulbs in the interior, the third one in from the left id the DIC bulb. You'll have to swap the blue silicone bulb cover also;

SPJD - Same bulbs as you're using in the Radio/HVAC, 70mA Miniature.

Yup and the blue cover or it'll be yellower then the others.

Default Unlit DIC Buttons

At present, I have two DIC buttons that won't light up. I've read through the above and some of the links, but is replacement of DIC bulbs hard to do?

I've gone so far with the dash as to take thinks apart enought to put a C6Z06 shifter in my C5, but nothing further. I hope the bulbs are just plug and play (no soldering). I don't want to screw things up with any dash electronics.

Maybe I should let my dealer (Shudder!) take care of it for me. Any opinions? Thanks!

In order to get to them, you'll need to pull the IP Cluster. On the C-5, taking out the center console again, then the knee bolster. From there the surround of the IP Cluster. Now here is the key, you'll need to remove the two nuts that hold the steering column up from under it, below or under the cluster. This will allow the steering column to lower or hang about an inch and a half, which is just enough room to remove the IP Cluster. There is a large connector on the left side of the cluster and if you have a hud, there's a small connector at the top of it. Carefully tilt the top of the cluster over towards you and work it out from between the dash pad and the steering wheel. Remember to not lay the cluster down on its face or back when you are removing the DIC controller. It comes off with just two screws.
