Default Rear Wheel Hop

On certain pavement types I get "rear wheel hop" going to the next gear @ WOT. My '02 C5 Z06 has stock gears, 11" wide street tires and a few "warm up" mods to the engine. I'm assuming a change to the rear shocks might improve or solve the situation but I don't want to make much of a sacrifice in ride quality. I'm sure a lot of y'all have had and solved the same problem. What works best - keeping in mind that I'm a cheap skate? Oh - this is in "performance mode" as well.
Thanks for any ideas and yes I know - the gas pedal has a lot to do with it!

Be carefull to let off the gas if the wheels start to hop. A stock drive line will break under these extreme loads.

as far as I can tell based on various cars, 2 things that help with eliminating wheel hop are shock settings and stiffer bushings - of course tires are a factor too.

I get wheel hop in my vette - mostly in rain, which is wierd - you'd think MORE grip would cause it, not less.

On my kit car, I've had some success in tuning it out via adjustable shocks - by giving it more compression and less rebound.

I've heard people who use Bilstein Sport shocks report that its helped with the wheel hop problem somewhat.

K Ripper you saved me some bucks - those were some things I was going to try. Mine mostly does it on newish concrete & not on black top. Guess I'll get off the loud pedal till we hear from some quarter milers. Granted I don't use a bleach box for burn outs on city streets - that may be the answer - heat 'em up 1st.
Thanks again for the responses -

I was getting really bad wheel hop with my car when it was 800 HP. I installed a DTE transmission brace and it totally went away. Only my experience for what it is worth.

Drag radials or road race tires w/ a very soft compound would seem your best bet.

QFT.

I get wheel hop on my street tires, not on my DR's. Tires that stick will alleviate the problem.

Otherwise since you said it happens at the gear change just don't shift so hard, for the true 'cheap' fix.
