My baby has been saying out of the Northeast's weather, but this past weekend of 60 degress made it tough to keep her in the garage. I took it out for a short run & noticed a squeek while it was at idel. When I gave her some juice it went away. Were the belts just cold & dry from not using her. Any words of wisdom would be greatly apprecated.
Re: Squeek while accelerating ??? (MrBigButt98Conv)
Tensioner belt... There was a TSB on that I believe. It was to replace the idler pully... You can also blast it with a little lube to shut it up temporarily. The nature of the problem didn't result in a failure, just some noise...
Re: Squeek while accelerating ??? (MrBigButt98Conv)
Mr.BigButt98Conv,
Chevrolet issued TSB bulletin #99-06-01-007 to address "accessory drive squeak". It applies to 1997 - 1999 Corvettes, and 1998 - 1999 Camaro and Firebird vehicles with the LS-1 engine.
It involves replacing the idler pulley with a revised/updated pulley (new part number 12564401). The new pulley has a thicker dust shield to prevent distortion. The dust shield on the original pulley may have been distorted upon assembly, causing the idler pulley dust shield to contact the bearing race and the pulley resulting in the squeak noise.
My 1999 C5 coupe had this annoying squeak noise and it was eliminated after the dealer replaced the idler pulley. The pulley is about $30 - $40 and the labor time suggested is 0.3 hours.
