Well I was driving the other day and 3 different alarms popped up.
-Service Traction System
-Service ABS
-Service Active Handling
I was hoping it was just a one time thing but, like always, it came back. I know ABS system is tied in with the traction system and both deactivate if there is a problem. So I pulled the codes and got 2 current alarms.
-C 2120 TPM System Malfunction
-C 1234 LR Wheel speed circuit open or shortened
I know C2120 is there because I don't have any Tire pressure sensors. But I asking for some help on trouble shooting C 1234. What should be my next plan of action to solve this problem and what should i be looking for. I tried doing a search and didn't come up with much.
Each hub has a speed sensor on it for the traction and active handling systems. Check the connectors to make sure they are connected or that a wire has not rubbed the insulation off and shorted. The shop manual will have a test procedure for the sensor. Maybe some one can post it for you. Worst case, you will have to replace a bad hub.
Dig through the threads and you'll find an incredible DIY source that will walk you through the entire matter...with pix. Sorry, but I cannot recall the web address. Perhaps another blogger can help.
Thanks,
I've been digging through threads and I haven't had much luck finding much on the wheel speed sensor. I guess this weekend I take the wheel off and see if I can't find something. If anyone else has any thoughts I would appreciate it.
The code you're seeing indicates that the Left Rear wheel sensor circuit is either open or shorted. The connectors may just be dirty or need to be reseated. I had a similar issue with my front wheel 2 years ago and the problem hasn't come back after I inspected the connectors and lubed them with some electrical grease.
You shouldn't have to remove the tires. If you can get under the back of the car you will see the wheel sensor wire coming out of the back of the hub. There should be a connector near the wheel end above the lower A arm of the suspension, and if you follow the cable there should be another connector near the center of the car. Check each of those connectors as well as the wiring along the way for any fraying. My money is on the connector just needing some lube.
Well I checked out the connector and it was dirty. i used some electrical cleaner, sprayed it, dryed it, and hooked it back up. Good thing is that code didn't pop back up, bad thing is the dreaded 1243 did. Luckily there is alot of write-ups about this, but there doesn't seem to be a definite solution. I guess I'll try the "hot-wire" the pump thing and see how it works.
I also have to renew my plates this month, with the traction control system kinda whacked out, will I pass the inspection?
