I was reading an article on this months Vette magazine about tire options on the C5. I have a 98 Convertible and want to upgrade to the 2000 or 2001 wheels. What I wanted to do was go with the stock 275 / 40 / 18 in the rear and 275 /40 / 18 in the fronts. The article says the C5 will take 275 / 40 / 18's all around but my question is, if I go with Michelin Pilots or even Goodyear F1 non runflats, will the tire pressure sensors still work? Also, the C5 is pretty neutral as far as handling goes with easy oversteer with some throttle. But if I run the bigger 18" tires in front, what affect in handling does anyone see?

You can't run a 275/40/18 in the front because this is not the correct offset and will throw off your AH/TC. Going to an 18 in. tire in the front increases turn in. I went with non runflats and have had no problems with the sensors.
You need to keep the size difference front/rear close to stock. If you exaggerate this the TC ABS will not know what's going on and shut down. I've seen it happen with track guys running different sized track tires. Their eyes get big when they lock up the fronts and slide off the track.
For track tires I use 275/40-18 and 265/35-18 :yesnod:

Re: Using 18" wheel on my C5 (gpflepsen)
I'm running 265/35zr18 on 18x9.5 in the front and 295/35zr18 on 18x11 in the rear and have had excellent success. The Michelin Pilot sports are a great tire. Just carry a can of fix-a-flat. Keep in mind that the goo will get you home but may screw up you tire pressure sensor and the are around $100. I figure it is worth it. I actually use tire plugs and a power tank to air up a flat tire.
The best part of getting rid of the run flats is that the michlins are sooooooo much more quite running down the freeway.
