Default vin numbers

Well I'm lookin at purchasing a slightly wrecked 2000 vette from a local wrecking yard, problem is there's no title to the car, so I'm wondering if its possible to buy another dash pad from another car install it, and apply for lost title, also the vin sticker on the door has peeled off so that's ok, is there any other ones on the car I would have to change to re liscense the car or should I just run now, its a killer price and I hope I can make it work

Don't you mean a salvage/rebuilt title?

Yes a salvaged or rebuilt title, but the problem is he doesn't have a title for the car, so is there a way around this, like changing the vin, or am I getting into something I shouldnt

Maybe it's not his car. It does belong to somebody, can't they do a title search with the VIN?

""""its a killer price and I hope I can make it work""""

Call the DMV in your state, I bet you they can tell you exactly what to do!

If your just trying to make a legal purchase from a wrecking yard I don't see why they would have a problem with you asking. Do yourself a favor and ask the DMV before you part with your cash for a vehicle you can't regester.

You may have just answered your own question!

Could it be worth all of the possible hassles?

PS - there are hidden VIN #'s.

They (DMV or LE) can't come after you for asking about the legality of the purchase, it's not in your possession.

If you buy it and try swapping vins from another vehicle to make it work, you are now involved, if it is stolen, and open to prosecution........

As stated above there are hidden vins that can be checked by a knowledgeable Leo
