I wanna get a shift light installed. :D
I got this idea of getting a A-pillar dual gauge pot with gauges and making a small hole in it (next to the bottom gauge I guess) and installing a shift light in there. Wonder if it’s gonna work. It’s gonna have to be some very small profile light for sure….
If anybody has a shift light installed in their car, can you post pics (if you have them)?
where did you get it?
How much?
What’s involved in installation?
I do not have one in my 'Vette (it's an A4!) but I can recommend a style to buy and where to mount it. I had the small Auto Meter pencil shift light in my 1997 Cobra and I mounted it on the steering column pointed directly at me. It is very hard to see. The wires ran straight back on the column to a place underneath the dash where the light electronics box mounted. The rest of the wires ran to the computer to pick up the tach signal and 12 volts. I am only mentioning this style of light because it is so small (diameter less than that of a Magic Marker) and it IS BRIGHT!!!
The neat thing about it is the intimidation factor at night racing someone from a stoplight. Once glance over at you when you throw the 1-2 shift and your face lights up with a bright yellow light and he will think twice!!!!!! Since you are probably in front after the first shift, it serves a dual purpose.
All kidding aside, they make a neat light. It comes with "pills" that select the range of rpm's you want to shift at. I ordered the 5330 light and the 5310 modules (with pills) from Summit. They ship free and fast. Their web site is http://www.autometer.com and when you open it, look at the pointing icon it produces when you point to a product after you enter the sight search!
Speaking of the HUD, I was pecking around with it one night and noticed that you can display only the speed if you want in the display. I like it this way because the tach and other stuff on the display take up a lot of room and all I really need to know is the speed. Maybe one of these days I will read the manual and watch the video!
Weather forecast for Ennis tomorrow: Partly cloudy, high 51 degrees, 41 % humidity, 5 mph wind. Now that's HP weather!
RWhite,
thanks for post. Sounds very interesting, but I couldn’t find it on the http://www.autometer.com website. :( It’s a werid website…
johnso26,
Yeah I know about that one ;) Unfortunately it’s kinda hard to use it :nonod:. If it were a different color, at least (red or something) You really have to stare right into that area of HUD to notice. Also it’s set to 5750rpm and I asked if it’s possible to reprogram, so far – negative :(
A bright light right into your eyes would be impossible to miss ;)
Well I'm new to posting on the forum over here. My first post to the forum I wound up buying a 2000 Yellow Vette :D I'm coming over here as a Camaro SS guy and wanted to see if any of ya heard of Harlan's shift light? Most of us who own a Z28's or SS's have them. They can be programed for any RPM in 50 rpm increments. There small and (((Bright))), come in three colors Red,Green, and Yellow. I have mine in the AC vent eye level can't miss it. Some put in the AC/heater vent in the window pillar. Harlan also has them for the Motorcycle guys also, there water-proof. All I need to do now is figure out where to hook it up to the PCM, I guess the yellow will go in the Vette.
