I cleaned the grounds as described above and still received "wait 10 sec pull key". Then I remembered a couple years ago I had a CLB from Racetronics that I thought wasn't working. So I give it a try and so far have been message free. I'm not sure if it was cleaning the grounds, switching CLB's, or a combination. I'll give it a couple weeks and post back my results. Thanks everyone for all your help!!
Same same but different.
I got those messags and finally I was not able to start the engine. Finally I bought a column lock bypass kit and it solved all the problems. it will cost you about $50 an problem is gone (at least it worked for me (1999 FRC C5)).
I've tried 2 different brands of CLB kits and also cleaning the grounds...is there any way of reprogramming the ECM if I purchase a programmer?
Thanks, Doug
Had message. Lock was removed. Against my wishes recall was performed. Relay behind the trunk/foglight switches. Two months later getting message, pull key wait 10 seconds, one month later i can only go 3 feet at a time. Car dies. Low voltage sugested, new battery, same problem. Install new ignition switch, same problem. Can't leave my garage.
Under passenger floormat is a panel exposing fuses and computer. Fuses 19 and 22 are ipc and bcm. Turn key to on. Remove fuses wait 30 seconds. Replace fuses. May clear message. To me that's the same as disconnecting battery.
Any suggestions or ideas, i'm in the same boat, c5's just don't paddle easy.

After you clean the ground connectors you need to run a ground wire from the passenger side ground connector to the negative side of the battery. If you want more info you can contact me.
Which bypass relay from anyones experience seems to be the best. Ecklers dosen't even show a part, and i am not too happy with gm. Gonna try another company before cussing gwatney chevrolet in jacksonville, ar. Just put the 2 month old relay back in and still can't travel over 3 feet.
Can you bypass it's connection to the fuel pump?
Got a different spin on this...left interior light on last night, battery died, boosted car off and got the message "service column lock". I was already 1 mile from my house when I saw the message. Got into office and found this thread. Can anyone tell me why my steering wheel is not locked? Why my car still runs fine? First thing I saw was the part about fuel shut off at 1.5 mph, not sure why mine is not doing that unless the recall has already been performed. If recall was done, why am I getting the message? Any help would be appreciated. Getting ready to purchase a CLB, but want to make sure I don't need to have something else done before installing it. It is a 2004 convertible with 6spd manual.
Just wanted to thank 8vette7 and Gene Cully for all their help on my column lock situation. It says a lot about a person that will help someone they don't even know and not ask for anything in return. Hopefully one day I can return the favor. If I can ever help you guys with anything, please let me know. Thanks again for all your help.
Its time and I for one am willing to help organize this suit. GM has knowingly and willfully ignored a very dangerous problem that they alone are responsible for. They removed the column lock so it can’t lock and yet the car is undriveable and will leave you stranded.
You can say just install a clb, I did. I cleaned all body grounds, installed a clb, put the perfect battery in, had the recalls completed, trickle charge the sitting car. The car did it again last night and won’t go over 1.5 mph. I was left to my own devices for my safety and that of the car. No manufacturer should be allowed to turn their head and pretend they have corrected this.
Shame on the management of GM, bailed out by the taxpayers of the U.S. and not responsible enough to come to a solution and just inform your customers and loyal followers how to fix it themselves if you can’t afford the recall. Are you telling me you don’t have to collective intelligence to fix it?
I am not looking for a dime, just a correct answer to stop the madness. This is not a simple inconvenience. When the issue occurs the car is undriveable and you are stranded, wherever you are. This has happened to some several times, too much to overlook. Now, even a dealer ship does not know how to fix it
