I got in my 2000 manual vert today and started down the street when I noticed a clicking noise coming from under the car toward the front. I noticed when I mash the brakes pedal the noise would go away but the noise only happened while the car was moving. There is also a noticeable thump you can feel at your feet when the noise happens.
Anyone have a clue? I had not driven the car in a week and it was fine before then. The one thing I did as an idiot was when I pulled out of the driveway I realized I had the e-brake halfway on. I don't think this has anything to do with it because the noise is coming from the front of the car.
A little more information needed please. Does this "thump" return each time you touch the brakes? Are you going straight or tight turns? Right off the top, I would be pulling the wheels and looking for abnormalities on the brakes, tie-rod ends and anything with a bolt/nut to tighten up.
The car only clicks and thumps near your feet when you do not have the brakes pressed...once the brakes are applied the thump and click goes away...even if you are moving slowly with the brakes on. I lifted the car up at the front and both wheels turn freely and are securely fastened. The rotors and calipers move freely also. There is no slop with the wheels or rotors. I looked under the car and couldn't see anything loose. Any other ideas?
Ok, let me ask this, does this thump sound like its a once a revolution on the wheels? I'm trying to narrow it down to whatever makes sense. Are you going in a straight line when this happens or turning? If while in tight turns it might just be an alignment issue. Any abnormal tire wear on the front? Rear? I think it prudent if you send a PM to Bill Dearborn in this case and ask for assistance too. The more eyes on this, the better.

I would love your feedback guys!
Thanks!
I had such a problem too. Never did anything about it...BUT...I replaced the plastic sway bar end links with metal links and the sound went away.
Thanks for the ideas guys...I figured it out. One of my calipers was loose(not torqued to the right spec) and it was thumping against the rotor. The sound would go away when the brakes were applied so that helped me narrow it to the brakes. Thanks again!
