Default Can ac compressor bearings be replaced?

Replaced my AC compressor about 2 years ago, and it's always had a little bearing noise... Recently its been gettin worse, and causing the car to idle funny. Can the bearings alone be replaced in the compressor?

I imagine they are if you can find replacement bearings and have the correct tools to tear the compressor apart and re-assemble it. You won't find the parts at your local auto parts store.

hmmm I wonder if it would be cheaper than buying a new compressor.

I haven't had good luck with rebuilt A/C compressors. I had Chrysler Lebaron I bought new and when I bought it I purchased the $50 deductible extended warranty that I didn't know was NOT a Chrysler warranty but a warranty through Quaker State Oil. My A/C compressor went out while the car was under warranty and Quaker State would not put a new one in they would only pay for a rebuilt. To make a long story short they ended up putting 4 compressors on before they got one that lasted (the first one of the 3 rebuilt ones that went bad lasted only about 10 minutes, It failed and locked up snapping a belt on the way home from the dealership)

I also had an 83 Thunderbird that I had a couple of rebuilt A/C compressors go bad before I found one to work.

Yeah this rebuilt started making noises only a few months after it was installed, and out of warranty. I've heard of them locking up and actually stalling the motor, which kind of scares me. I've been trying not to use my ac, but in florida it's hard not to in the summer!

Ya, I know I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for over 20 years and my Parents live in the same town you do. The point I was trying to make is, I know they cost more, but if you replace your A/C compressor again I would buy a new one rather than a rebuilt one. Just my opinion.
