Power Steering Fluid?
Yes synthetic fluid is specified. GM Part numbers 1052884 - 1 pint, or 1050017 - 1 quart.
I purchased “Red Line Fully Synthetic Power Steering Fluid” – it states that it meets the GM spec listed above. I purchased from Summit Racing as they are in my backyard.
Valvoline used to make a synthetic fluid but they ceased production on that product. (Most likely a decision from some pencil pusher bean counter)
Best to purchase ahead of time to keep on hand as the synthetic PS fluid is difficult to find. (I can’t find synthetic PS fluid at AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts)
I have always just used standard fluid, and the bottle does not have any indication that it is or is not synthetic.
I did not think the Corvette used any different fluid than other GM cars, and I think my Z06 uses the same part number as my Impala.
The owner's manual for our 2003 Malibu says PN 1052884, but for my 2004 Z06 and 2007 Impala the part number is 89021184. I just figured the part number was superceded.
I read the back of the bottle on GM 89020661 and it says mineral oil is the main component. Does not appear to be synthetic.
1050017 has been superceded by 89020661.
