Default Tires

I gotta get into the 12’s I am so close, 13.016 with a slow 60 foot time of over 2.1 secs. so
I’m looking at getting so drag tires, or something better than my stock run flats and I plan on only using them for drag racing.
I’ve found some new Sumitomo High Performance HTR Z II Tires, I like these cause they cost less than most other tires out there.

I have chosen my tire size of 285 35 18
I like this size for 2 reasons.
1 They fit my extra set of stock 9.5” wide wheels
2 They are smaller than the stock tires thereby slightly lowering my overall gear ratio.

275 40 18 Stock rear
26.67 dia.

285 35 18
25.86 dia.

My question is this:

Will these smaller tires cause me to throw a code ??

I know I should get some wider wheels (10”) and go for the 305 35 18
(26.41 dia) tires but I have no more money (wife) so I would like to use my stock 9.5 “ replica wheels.

Can I have these wheels widened to 10” ??

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Auto, I went to the drags last weekend and I almost wrecked with these stock tires. I HAD to leave Traction Control ON and still it would get a little sideways shifting to 2nd, but this one run I forgot to turn it ON and I burned the tires all the way thru 1st gear and when it shifted to second it just came around. I was saying "Wheres the wall, where's the wall"
Good thing it was a ways away.

not to hijack your thread but i'm going to the track for the first time next tuesday on run-flats and i was wondering did you lower your tire pressure and if so what did you set it to?

I did lower my pressure in the rears and I raised it on the fronts.

I'll go and check

33 in the front and 25 in the rear, cold.

Bascilly you want to go as low as you can in the rear and as high as you can in the front without throwing a code.
I think a code is thrown at 38 PSi (too high), so I could have gone higher in the front and 22 in the rear.

Good luck and get into the 12' for me.

Your rear tires must be 1/2 inch taller than your front tires OR traction control and active handling won't work properly. You can turn these off and drive.

The TPMSs alarm on 26 and 42 psi. BUT, they only give you an alarm, you can drive without any problems.

Good Luck !

Yea, but the TPS warning is very annoying, I'd love to be able to turn that off. I don't really care about this anyways, I can keep it within the range so I don't get that warning.

For drag racing I really don't want the Traction Control ON, does my 1999 have active handling ??

I'm only intrested in Drag Racing with these new tires I'm planning on getting, of I may drive the car to the drag stip with them on.

I've been having a hard time deciding what tires to get, so I have come here to ask ... and like I say, I only want to buy tires not wheels so I'm limited to tires that will fit on my stock 9.5" wide rim AND I would love to lower my overall gear ratio with these new tires, which means a smaller tire.

What should I do ??
What size should I get ??
Should I just stick with the stock size ??

Thanks
